Real-time BI in high-security: Thales modernizes with Cognos

The challenge

The migration involved more than technology alone. Thales was struggling with outdated Cognos 8.x and 10.x reports with no documentation, strict access security, complex OTAP structures, and a clear need for more self-service for analysts. All within a high-security environment where compliance was non-negotiable.

Our approach

Our consultant acted as Cognos specialist and system architect. He designed a new Cognos Analytics architecture including lifecycle guidelines, planned and executed the migration, thoroughly tested the environment and secured fallback scenarios. In addition, the BI stack was integrated with MarkLogic, Oracle 12c and NetVisn, and close coordination with functional teams took place.

Thales is a global player in defense technology, air traffic control and cybersecurity. In such sensitive areas, reliable, up-to-date information is essential – and must meet extremely high security, compliance and management requirements. Within this context, IBS was engaged to modernize Thales’ BI environment. Goal: migration to Cognos Analytics and establishment of a future-proof OTAP architecture.

The impact

New dashboards and reports in Cognos 11 are now available to business users. The new structure makes management easier, compliance more secure, and information delivery to operations and management significantly accelerated.
