Rekru – The Next IBS Hero
Imagine this: you visit the IBS website and instead of a standard application form you find a mini-game that challenges you in a fun, interactive way. This is the idea behind “Rekru – The Next IBS Hero,” a concept that combines gamification with recruitment to improve both the application experience and candidate selection.
The team proposed a web-based mini-game consisting of four games, each highlighting a unique theme: Agile Manifesto, Software Design Patterns, System Design and IBS Culture. These games not only test your knowledge and skills in these areas, but also your problem-solving ability and creativity.
To make the gaming experience more engaging, it uses storytelling, levels, checkpoints and leaderboards. The underlying storyline takes you on a journey as an applicant on your way to a job interview at a company – a company you will soon discover you don’t want to work there.
The first game developed by the team is the ‘Agile Manifesto’ game. This game is a modern interpretation of the classic ‘Frogger,’ but with a unique twist. As an applicant, you must cross a busy road to get to the company, planning your route to avoid collisions with traffic. What is unique about this version of the game is that you can zoom in and out to view your surroundings, and draw your walking route at different scale levels. This game emphasizes the importance of careful planning and foresight, important aspects of successful project management.
The last game, “The Culture Monster,” is a unique chat challenge in which you find yourself in the job interview facing a terrible boss. You must make your values clear, and if you go along with the monster’s inhuman desires, you may get hired, but feel unhappy. But if you dare to be yourself and in addition have a good match with the culture of IBS, you can beat the Culture Monster and get an invitation to join IBS.
Behind the scenes, this game uses sophisticated language models trained on IBS intranet articles, LinkedIn posts and WhatsApp messages to identify affinities with IBS culture.
